Awards Ceremony for District Winners of Houston Rodeo’s School Art Contest Set for January 19

The district will host an Awards Ceremony for student winners of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo School Art Contest on January 19. Selected artworks advance for auction at the 2023 RODEOHOUSTON®.

2023 Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo

Thursday, January 19
Doors open at 5:00 p.m.; the Awards Ceremony starts at 6:00 p.m.

Hosted by Aldine ISD’s Visual Arts Department, Kaileigh Newman, director of visual arts, invites families, staff, and community members to attend the in-person ceremony to support students.

Aldine ISD and other Houston-area school districts host district-level competitions each year after the Rodeo’s School Art Committee visits participating districts to judge entries. District-level winners and students advancing to the Rodeo competition will be announced on January 19.

All work by high school participants is eligible for the Show’s School Art Auction. Each entry receives a red, white, or blue ribbon, with judges selecting the Best of Show, Gold Medal, and Special Merit Awards from the blue-ribbon group. Winners are chosen at the elementary, junior, and high school levels.

The mission of the Rodeo’s School Art Program is to promote an awareness of agriculture and Western heritage as well as Show activities through artistic competitions for area students. The subject matter for all artwork entered in the School Art Program must depict the West’s heritage, lifestyle, and historical and present-day landscapes.

The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo will hold an Awards Ceremony in March. The Rodeo runs Feb. 28-March 19, 2023, at NRG Park.
