[dropcap color=”#888″ type=”square”]H[/dropcap]undreds of students recently competed in the Academics Spring Meet Conference 6A District 18. Aldine ISD students recorded multiple top 10 places, including first-place team wins.

Students compete in many different events ranging from mathematics to literature. These activities complement the academic curriculum. The events are designed to motivate students as they acquire higher levels of knowledge. UIL Academic Meets provide students with the opportunity to show mastery of specific skills. The events challenge students to think critically and creatively. They have to exhibit much more than knowledge and comprehension.

The competition is intense. Eisenhower High School came in second behind Memorial High School (Spring Branch) with total points compiled. Eisenhower racked up 254 points to Memorial’s 553. Davis (175) and MacArthur (145) followed Ike for third and fourth place, respectively. Northbrook (Spring Branch) placed fifth (132); Carver came in sixth (107); Aldine scored seventh place (99) and Nimitz finished in eighth place (28).

Four AISD campuses took home team wins. Eisenhower came in first in Calculator Applications. MacArthur placed first in Literary Criticism and Davis won first in Number Sense. Carver and Davis tied for first in One-Act Play event with Memorial HS. Carver earned first in the Science event.
