Children at Risk named the best high-performing high schools in the Houston area. Making the Top 10 List is Aldine ISD’s Victory Early College High School.

The nonprofit ranks Texas schools each year. The group hopes this helps parents and educators understand how their schools are performing.

Children-at-Risk-Image-2Children At Risk considers student achievement, student growth, raw test score data from 2017, and score comparisons between schools with similar poverty levels. The analysis also looks at college readiness to determine the high school rankings.

The AISD campus also earned the designation of Gold Ribbon School. The designation identifies campuses with high percentages of students from low-income families and with strong academics. Principal Dr. Phyllis Cormier leads Victory ECHS.

Aldine ISD and most other large school districts in the Greater Houston area improved between 2017 and 2018. Additionally, half of large school districts in Greater Houston saw increases in high-performing, high-poverty schools.

Every year, Children at Risk ranks 8,000 schools across the state. In Houston, Children at Risk looked at more than 1,400 schools in the area as part of the study.
