Thirty-seven MacArthur High School dual credit British Literature students recently visited The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston (MFAH), to explore the English Renaissance beyond the textbook.  The students are currently studying the writing and artwork of the time period. The visit to the museum was a first for most of the British Literature students.
“I’ve never been to a museum before, so our visit was an eye-opening experience for me,” Daniel Valdez, MacArthur High School senior, said. “I was captivated by the timeless artwork and the educational insight into different time periods.”
Students were able to compare and contrast the religious portraits from the Middle Ages to the secular portraits and paintings of the Renaissance. The visit ended with a writing activity, where the students were asked to observe the details in the artwork, describe the imagery, and write a critical review.
