Public Student Transfer Application

STUDENT TRANSFERS

Student transfers are defined as students attending a campus for which they are not zoned. There are three types of transfers.

  • Public Education Grant (PEG)
  • Intra-District (available for students who live inside the district)
  • Inter-District (available for students who live outside the district)

PEG

Students who attend district or non-district schools which meet certain State criteria can apply for this transfer.

Inter-District Transfers

Resident Student Who Becomes a Nonresident

A resident student in prekindergarten through grade 10 who becomes a nonresident during the course of a semester shall be permitted to continue in attendance for the remainder of the semester.

A resident student who becomes a nonresident after beginning the grade 11 school year shall be permitted to continue in attendance until graduation if the student files a written request with the Superintendent or designee no later than the beginning of the semester following the change of residence; however, the student shall be subject to tuition for his or her senior year.

Space Available Transfers

A nonresident student wishing to transfer into the District shall file an application for transfer each school year with the Superintendent or designee. Transfers approved on a space-available basis shall be granted for one regular school year at a time, on a tuition-free basis.

Intra-District Transfers

Junior / Senior Transfer

A student who moves from one attendance zone to another after beginning the grade 11 school year shall be permitted to continue in attendance at the initial school until graduation if the student files a written request with the Superintendent or designee no later than the beginning of the semester following the change of residence.

Hardship Transfer

A student shall be permitted to request an intra-district transfer to a school in another zone based on a hardship. Most hardship transfers are requested based on supervision before or after school or daycare transportation needs.

Unique Scholastic Program

A student shall be permitted to request an intra-district transfer to a school in another attendance zone that offers a unique scholastic program not offered at the school in his or her attendance zone, excluding magnet schools. If a transfer is granted, the student’s eligibility for participation in extracurricular activities shall be determined in accordance with UIL rules and any applicable law.

An intra-district transfer granted for this purpose shall automatically expire if the student completes or withdraws from the program or if the school in the student’s attendance zone offers the program.

Siblings of Students with Special Needs

If a student is assigned to a school outside his or her attendance zone in order to receive special education services, any student residing in the same household shall be permitted to transfer to the same school.

School Safety / Bullying

If an investigation determines that a student has been a victim of an assaultive or bullying offense the student will be eligible for a transfer.
