More than 200 students signed up to participate in STEMfest 2022, held Saturday, April 30, at the Bamberg Professional Development and Resource Center.

Staff celebrated all things STEAM with fun-filled, hands-on activities for students from kindergarten through 12th grade. The goal was to engage students in STEM activities, bring out their genius, and encourage a love of STEM areas in a fun-filled event.

STEMfest was another opportunity Aldine ISD gave students of all ages to learn or be exposed to STEM and for older students to showcase or put their knowledge and skills to the test in the Exhibition Showcase or competed in three different categories: Aldine Creates (digital media), Aldine Codes, and Aldine Engineers.

“STEMfest served as a way to remove any false preconceptions about STEM and encourage them to participate in STEM in school and think of the career possibilities in STEM fields. I thank the families that brought their students out to participate, and I want to congratulate all the winners! It was truly a fun learning experience for all,” said Dr. Joceyln McDonald, program director of technology applications and STEM.

Event partners and sponsors included BootUp, Microsoft TEALS, Osmo, Sam Lab, Sphero, Direct Waste Solutions, and #TechItUp, LLC. Also, actor, comedian, artist, and philanthropist Kalum Johnson will emcee the event. The local celebrity empowers youth through his Big Steppers Foundation.
