Aldine ISD FFA, Art Students Earn $168,820 at Annual Livestock Show

The Aldine community once again stepped up to the plate and rewarded Aldine ISD FFA (Future Farmers of America) students and art students for their hard work and creativity by spending $168,820 on projects and art work during the 56th annual Livestock Show and Country Fair, held Feb. 2-6 at the M.O. Campbell Educational Center.

The Sale of Champions brought in $141,550, while the art auction and re-sales brought in an additional $27,270.

The grand champion steer was raised by Madison Kelch of Nimitz High School and was purchased by the First Construction Buyer’s Group for $8,500. The reserve grand champion steer was raised by Courtney Cain of Eisenhower High School and was purchased by the Eisenhower Vertical for $8,000.

The grand champion pig was raised by Jade Youngblood of Davis High School and was purchased by the Aldine Buyer’s Group for $5,500. The reserve grand champion pig was raised by Alejandro Rodriguez of MacArthur High School and was purchased by Kidd Pipeline for $5,500.

The grand champion goat was raised by Gabriel Joubert of Eisenhower High School and was purchased by the Superintendent’s Group for $4,000. The reserve grand champion goat was raised by Cheyenne Hester of Aldine High School and was purchased by the Aldine Vertical for $2,500.

The grand champion lamb was raised by Alejandra Tobar of Eisenhower High School and was purchased by the Aldine Noon Optimist Club for $4,000. The reserve grand champion lamb was raised by Madison Kelch of Nimitz High School and was purchased by the Nimitz Vertical for $3,000.

The grand champion Turkey Tom was raised by Samantha Lopez of Eisenhower High School and was purchased by Beasley Tire for $3,250. The reserve grand champion Turkey Tom was raised by Peter Mwangi of Eisenhower High School was purchased by Republic Central Realty for $2,250.

The grand champion turkey hen was raised by Courtney Cain of Eisenhower High School and was purchased by the Superintendent’s Group for $2,750. The reserve grand champion turkey hen was raised by Stephanie Rodriguez of Eisenhower High School and was purchased by the Aldine Noon Optimist Club for $2,250.

The grand champion broilers were raised by Hunter Palermo of Nimitz High School and were purchased by the Aldine Education Foundation and Frost Bank for $2,500. The reserve grand champion broilers were raised by Madison Kelch of Nimitz High School and were purchased by AXA Equitable for $2,250.

The grand champion rabbit was raised by Codi Cox of Eisenhower High School and was purchased by Caldwell Companies for $2,250. The reserve grand champion rabbit was raised by Quadrey El-Shabazz of Nimitz High School and was purchased by Bill and Margaret Ginder for $1,000.

The grand champion horticulture project was produced by Madison Kelch of Nimitz High School and was purchased by the Nimitz Vertical for $1,750. The reserve grand champion horticulture project was produced by Norma Gamez of MacArthur High School and was purchased by the MacArthur Vertical for $1,800.

The grand champion scholarship cake was produced by the Davis High School FFA team and was purchased by the Davis Vertical for $900. The reserve grand champion scholarship cake was produced by the MacArthur High School FFA team and was purchased by the MacArthur Vertical for $2,100.

The grand champion art project was produced by Mariana Mendoza of Eisenhower High School and was purchased by the Superintendent’s Group for $2,750. The reserve grand champion art project was produced by McKenna Horning of Nimitz High School and was purchased by Component Sales for $1,500. In total, the eight artworks up for auction brought in $10,350.

The money earned by FFA students can be used for college scholarships or to fund projects for the 2016 Livestock Show and Country Fair.
