5 Aldine ISD Campuses Make 2015 ‘Best High Schools in the U.S.’ Rankings

U.S. News & World Report released the Best High School rankings on May 12. In Aldine ISD, five campuses made the 2015 rankings. [icons icon_name=”icon-external-link” icon_size=”14px”]Victory Early College High School received a Gold medal. [icons icon_name=”icon-external-link” icon_size=”14px”]Carver High School received a Silver medal. [icons icon_name=”icon-external-link” icon_size=”14px”]Aldine Ninth Grade School, [icons icon_name=”icon-external-link” icon_size=”14px”]Aldine High School and [icons icon_name=”icon-external-link” icon_size=”14px”]MacArthur High School earned a Bronze medal.

To create the 2015 rankings, U.S. News worked with RTI International. This is a North Carolina-based research firm.

U.S. News evaluated schools on three academic indicators. Due to a slight change in the method this year, more schools qualified for the rankings.

Academic Indicators

[ul class=”list list-search”] [li]State Testing. Schools had to perform better than average to pass.[/li] [li]How effectively schools educated their least-advantaged students (i.e. those students of African-American, Hispanic and low-income backgrounds).[/li][/ul] [ul class=”list list-search”] [li]College Readiness Index. The (CRI) indicates student participation and performance on Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate exams.[/li][/ul]

In the national rankings, 500 high schools received Gold medals. The Silver went to 2,027 schools and 3,990 took home Bronze.

There are more than 400 Texas schools in the 2015 U.S. News Best High School rankings.

In AISD, Victory Early College High School earned a Gold medal for a third year in a row. The campus moved up from a rank of #199 in the nation last year to #155. In the state rankings, Victory ECHS is #28. Carver High School for Engineering, Applied Technology and The Arts again took home a Silver medal. The magnet school earned Silver in the 2014 and 2013 rankings. Based on state exam performance, Aldine Ninth Grade School, Aldine High School and MacArthur High School received Bronze medals.

U.S. News began ranking high schools in 2007. In 2010 and 2011, the magazine did not rank campuses due to developing a new method.

The campuses that ranked this year are raking in the awards and recognition. Victory Early College High School ranked in [icons icon_name=”icon-external-link” icon_size=”14px”]Niche’s Top 100 of Best High Schools in the Houston area. The campus received an “A” to make the list of the top schools in the Houston area in the rankings posted for spring and fall of 2014. Victory ECHS also made [icons icon_name=”icon-external-link” icon_size=”14px”]Newsweek‘s ranking of the top 500 schools in the U.S. At the state level, the Texas Education Agency has also recognized the campus. TEA recently nominated Victory ECHS for the [icons icon_name=”icon-external-link” icon_size=”14px”]National 2015 Blue Ribbon Honors.

Carver High School earned a [icons icon_name=”icon-external-link” icon_size=”14px”]School of Distinction Award from Magnet Schools of America in 2014. The magnet school also made [icons icon_name=”icon-external-link” icon_size=”14px”]Niche’s Best High Schools in the Houston area spring 2014 rankings.

MacArthur High School also made [icons icon_name=”icon-external-link” icon_size=”14px”]Niche’s Top 100 of the Best High Schools in the Houston area in the fall 2014 rankings. The National Center for Urban School Transformation also recognized the three Bronze medalists. [icons icon_name=”icon-external-link” icon_size=”14px”]In 2013, NCUST named Aldine Ninth Grade School, Aldine High School and MacArthur High School among America’s Best Urban Schools in America. [icons icon_name=”icon-external-link” icon_size=”14px”]MacArthur became the first high school to become a two-time winner.
